Stephanie Will, LCPC

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who has over 10 years of experience working in higher education.  I have been a clinician a the UMBC counseling center, Retriever Integrated Health, since 2023, and was at Montgomery College from 2015 through 2022 creating and implementing mental health programming through the student wellness center.  My time at MC included developing the Peer Advocate program, teaching student leaders to educate and counsel their peers through structured support groups.

My undergraduate years were spent at Randolph-Macon College where I studied Psychology and English Writing.  While at RMC, I was the president of my sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta, and Psi Chi, the psychology honor society.  I worked multiple campus jobs at the library, the Office of College Advancement, and Residence Life in addition to work as a tutor and mentor.  One of my greatest academic achievements was being selected twice to be part of the Summer (now Schapiro) Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF). My  first project involved research on white privilege and pro-social action in the Psychology Department, my second involved adapting The Awakening by Kate Chopin into a stage play in the English Department.  I graduated cum laude in four years with three internships completed and was initiated into the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

I attended Hofstra University for my Masters in Mental Health Counseling.  Though not as involved on campus as I was at RMC, I maintained a Graduate Assistantship in the Office of Admissions during my program.  During this time I prioritized relationships with my cohort and colleagues.  These bonds led to opportunities for conference travel and a strong social support network when challenges arose.

In addition to my time as a student, I was also an advisor for my sorority at Towson University, keeping me connected to campus life until I returned to higher education as an employee.

I started my clinical career in the substance abuse field, spending two years at South Oaks Hospital working in the in-patient detox and rehabilitation programs as well as out-patient group treatment.  I moved on to the Waxter Children's Center for almost six years, working with girls aged 11-21 who were incarcerated.  From there I moved into my career in higher education at Montgomery College, the largest community college in Maryland, and then to UMBC, a 4-year R1 Doctoral University with a D1 Athletics program.  Both schools hold a federal Minority Serving Institution (MSI) designation, meaning I have worked with a diverse group clients throughout my career in terms of personal identity and intersectionality.

My greatest professional passion has been developing programming that helps college students succeed.  I have been creating presentations on anxiety management, mindfulness, sleep hygiene, resilience, self-compassion, and a variety of other topics for over 10 years.  I also have a deep love of mentoring students, and have been lucky enough to coach and support student leaders as an employer, club advisor, and consultant.

In my free time I love reading and writing fiction and trying new hobbies and crafts like painting and crochet.  Cruising is my new favorite way to vacation and I love spending time at the beach.  I have four little niblings that I love spending time with and a mouthy 18-year-old Siamese cat named Tut that I inherited from my grandparents.
